new team effort? [09 Jun 2009|03:57pm]

Hey all,

I used to be an OMer back in the day...fourth through eighth grade, with a very strong and tight-knit team.

Now that I'm an adult, I would like to expand the tradition throughout our local elementary schools here.

The questions that I have are varied, but first and foremost, how would I go about beginning a project such as this?

Where can I get the books and materials, and will it cost money.

Any (really, any) advice would be incredibly useful.

Thank you very very much.

I made these for myself, but others are certainly welcome to them. Or I could add a custom phrase or some such thing if someone so desires. Oh, I could do other problems, too if anyone is interested. That one took me a while, so I didn't want to go ahead and make them and then have nobody want them.

GA pins '06 [26 Mar 2006|03:24pm]

Image hosting by Photobucket

YAY! ^_^ I won this whole set yesterday when I found out that they had chosen my pin design! (The green dragon in the center). Yesterday's Regional Tournament was a good day. We came in first in Longterm and Style and we got second overall in the Ancient Egypt problem. We get to go to State. We also won a cake in the cake walk! YAY! Anyone else from GA here?

[ mood | life is an odyssey. ]

Hi all.
Last weekend was our regional competition. My team is doing Ancient Egypt, division three. We got second place so we'll be heading to FL States next month. This year is surreal for my team because we are seniors and a lot of us can't remember a time when we weren't doing OM. For me, this is my ninth year in the program. It's funny to think what I would have said if someone had told me in fourth grade that I would be about to graduate from high school and still doing OM. At competition, our regional director read off all the seniors names and numbers of years in Odyssey. It was such an awesome full circle moment for me to stand up and wave to all the kids... I remember how exciting regional award ceremonies were when I was in division one. Anyway, good luck to everybody and I'll keep you posted on how my team and the other two Barron Collier HS teams do in Orlando!

- yesterday at 7 in the morning was our first rehearsal (not even dress rehearsal). we nailed it three times at 6 minutes and 30 seconds (we have 8 minutes)
- we went to competition, everyone was blown away by everything
- we moved into the staging area, we were next & the bottom of our set's frame fell apart so all of the wood in the set fell out. the team that was supposed to go after us went before us and we had our biggest feat as a team, putting the set back together in 15 minutes, we didn't get to show the other side but it still worked. i was so proud of us. THANK THE LORD FOR IN CASE OF EMERGENCY BOXES!
- the sign wouldn't stand up, arlana got it to though
- the sarcophagus fell and smashed into the ground, the snake on its head flying into the judges. you should see my face at this time. i improv'ed and made something up that fit in afterwords and the judges thought it was intentional.
- a member forgot her lines, but i helped save her them.
- a member tripped and tackled a girl
even though so much went wrong, we still swooped the competition and got first & an OMer for the creation of our sarcophagus!

Greetings! [06 Feb 2006|10:22pm]

Hey everyone,
This is my first time posting here on the LiveJournal OM community. I'm a sophomore in college, but I'm currently entering my eighth year of involvement with Odyssey of the Mind. My girlfriend and I introduced the campus to Odyssey of the Mind, and we have just formed a Division IV Classics team. We had some trouble getting the team together, and I had several concerns with regard to transportation of props, money, etc. Nearly all of my concerns were addressed and solved at the meeting. Furthermore, all of the team members are at least vaguely familiar with OM. I'm very excited!

Prior to college, I spent seven years throughout elementary school, middle school, and high school competing in Classics and Problem #5. Our Regional Competitions were in Berwick, PA. This year will actually mark the 11th time that I have visited the Berwick school district; I will be judging the Classics problem. On off-years, I have video taped skits and gone to support my fellow OMers. During my senior year, my team received a Ranatra Fusca at the Regional Competition. After seven years of competing (five years making it to States), I also finally made it to the World Finals Competition. Needless to say, it's an OM season I will not soon forget.

[ mood | Reminiscent ]

Hey everyone! I did Odyssey last year, first time, and I loved it. I really wanted to do it this year however noone really was interested. x_x

Reminscent: I was in the first ever technical team for my school district and the only girl in StuntMobiles. xP [EDIT] I forgot to mention... I live in NJ. n_n

Meetings were the best... Although we had way too much food and way too much free time to goof off. But, when working, we've conversed about sooo many random topics its not even funny. Also, the random outbursts of song. Ahhh...

I loved my team members and couches. Sure, one team-mate was super-negative, but all the guys were just... so funny. Our couches: AM-AZING!

My team, particularly, got to State Finals. We received a Ranatra Fusca in Qualifying and third place in Regionals.

Teams In Your Dreams and Crazy Columns went to World Finals and placed at least, I think, in the top 40 in their division. ALSO they got me an OMER puppet. *dances* I'll get a picture soon.

Sorry, I think I'm bragging. xP

Anyway, I was just wondering: For those who competed last year, what are your fondest moments? Thanks. n_n

Hello. I'm an OMer from Singapore! This the 4th time i'm doing OM and i'm really loving it. I've never been to the world finals and i really hope to make it to Iowa next year because sadly i dont think i'll have the time to do OM after 2006 =(.

I guess my group wants to do the Great Parade problem. We did In Your Dreams this year (we didnt win because we went overtime! @.@). What problem are you guys doing?? I'm curious lol.

hey - last year my team was 6 girls and one guy - and we found out the guy was talking about us behind our backs and what not, and he left our team and another girl dropped out. we got another girl and another guy to fill their spots. i was wondering what the boy to girl ratio is on your teams and how you all work together.

Division IV [06 Oct 2005|01:54pm]

Does anyone here know how to start a Division IV team? My school had one until the year before I started here, but they didn't have one last year and the email address on the school's OM website no longer exists. I'd like to be on a team, but it looks like I will have to get it going again on my own. Anyone know how to do this?

Hi Everybody! [01 Oct 2005|08:56pm]

HI! I'm Alex, and I joined the community (and livejournal) over the summer. This is gonna be my 9th year in OM, and i have been to worlds 3 times (with the team from Spackenkill HS, NY). We always do the structure problem, and this year is no exception. Besides having random team problems this year (2 people from the team left, and we dont exactly have replacements...), the structure problem looks really hard! They expect us to fit all those shapes AND paper to cover them with into 15 grams? Crazyness. The weights this year are going to be A LOT less than the last couple of years at worlds. Well good luck to all of the teams this year, and may the OM gods be with all of you.

[ mood | blah ]

Hello! Long-time OM-er here, I am currently in my senior year of highschool and my seventh year of OM competition. I have been to World four times, with a best finish at 3rd in 2001 for Techno-pets Div 2. The problems I have done are:

2000- King Arthur
2001- Techno-Pets
2002- The Chameleon
2003- A Scene from Above
2004- Strategy Spheres
2005- Stuntmobiles and Get the Message
2006- Unknown

I really want to do the Ancinet Egypt problem. I read all the problems today, and that one really stands out at me.

Well, I hope to make some friends here!
